The Viennese tram #71 is passing Schwarzenbergerplatz on its way to Kaiserebersdorf. The 71er is one of the most famous lines of the city of Vienna and its route from Schwarzenbergplatz to Kaiserebersdorf is legendary. The line is really old. In 1873 a horse tramway between Schwarzenbergplatz and St. Marx was established. From 1901 the line was led electrically and got successively extended. In 1907, the previously unnamed line was given the number 71. Since 2012, the 71 runs from the stock exchange on the Schwarzenbergplatz to the new terminal Central Cemetery, which is a particular tourist attraction of the city of Vienna due to its many honorary graves, the Art Nouveau buildings and huge area. For many years a widespread euphemism of the Viennese vernacular, which is known for its peculiar sense of humour, was "he took the 71", i.e. he passed away. That is why the tram line 71 is also known in the Viennese vernacular as Gießkannenexpress (Giaßkaunlexpress): many Viennese used to take this route with their watering cans to the cemetery to take care for the graves of their relatives.
