Weekend in the Mauerpark Berlin Fine Art Print
Photography Fine Art Print "Weekend in the Mauerpark" from the BERLIN Collection by Ira Golenkova Ferrero. Signed by the artist.
Young Berliners are playing basketball in the Mauerpark — the Wall Park. In the background of the photograph, one sees apartment houses on the southern part of Bernauer str., which with the erection of the Berlin Wall occurred to be in East Berlin just several meters away from the West. A place, where a sports ground of Mauerpark is located today, used to be at those times an unreachable world... Today Mauerpark is a public linear park in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district. The name translates from German as "Wall Park", referring to its status as a former part of the Berlin Wall and its Death Strip. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the former death strip was designated as a public space and one of several green spaces in the city by local residents. An 800 m strip of the Berlin Wall still stands in the park today as a monument and is a popular place for graffiti artists to paint and display their work. the photograph was exhibited during 13 personal photographic exhibitions "Berlin — the City of Change" within the framework of the Year of Germany in Russia.
