Checkpoint Bornholmer Strasse Berlin Fine Art Print
Photography Fine Art Print "Checkpoint Bornholmer Strasse" from the BERLIN Collection by Ira Golenkova Ferrero. Signed by the artist.
In the background, there is the former Checkpoint Bornholmer Strasse, the most northern out of seven intercity border crossings and the most symbolic one in the history of Berlin unification. It was the checkpoint, where on the 9th November 1989 the very first order was given not to hold the crowds of Eastern Berliners anymore, who were trying to get to West Berlin, after the member of the Politburo of East Germany’s Socialist Unity Party (SED) Günter Schabowski read stumblingly at the live press-conference about the possibility of immediate trips by Eastern Berliners abroad without proving any purpose for the trip. On the same night fell the Berlin Wall.
